HC (HerCampus): How did you get started with photography? What piqued your interest in it?
TN (Tim Nguyen): I got started by taking random action pictures with my friend, Ian, back in high school.
HC: Is there anything specific that you love to shoot? If so, why?
TN: I like photographing people because I like the human element in pictures.
HC: How did you get involved with UIC Photography?
TN: I just took pictures around campus then things picked up from there.
HC: What would be your dream photo shoot?
TN: I want to do a photo shoot with the president someday.
HC: Are you involved in any other organizations or activities on campus?
TN: When I photograph various events on campus I feel very involved so I guess I’m involved in a little bit of everything at UIC.
HC: Is there anyone who you look up to as a mentor or aspire to be like? If so, who?
TN: I look up to my dad because he is hardworking and motivated.
HC: Summarize a day in the life of you.
TN: I just go to school and take pictures.
HC: Do you have any goals before you graduate?
TN: One goal that I have is to get or be offered a full time job before I graduate so I have something to do immediately when I leave UIC. I also want to build a wedding photography business before I graduate.
HC: What is your dream job/career?
TN: I want to have a good paying software engineering day job and a successful wedding photography business that I work on the weekends.
HC: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
TN: I see myself working every day.
HC: If you could have a celebrity best friend, who would it be and why?
TN: I want to be close friends with Zedd because his music is very unique and upbeat. He inspires me with his musical abilities.
HC: Ending Thoughts?
TN: My best advice to new people who want to do photography seriously is to be fearless, try new things often and make mistakes now so you don’t make them again in the future.
