As Halloween draws closer this Fall, everyone starts thinking about what they’re going to do. What’s Halloween without something scary? We picked some of the scariest haunted houses around for you and your friends to experience. But choose wisely because it could scare you for a lifetime. These haunted houses are well known in the area and well worth the journey, but you’re sure to be terrified. 

1. Statesville Haunted Prison in Crest Hill, IL is based on rioting prisoners with guards gone and no one to protect you. Darkness has taken over the Maximum Security Prison and the Warden has opened the gates for visitors. Your journey is to find your way through the 23 maximum security cells and come eye to eye with over 100 criminals that were too evil to die. Tickets run about $30 Thursdays through Sundays at Statesville Haunted Prison.

 

2. Basement of the Dead in Aurora, IL features Shattered, the smashing clown, who has lost all sense of being human the day his famous sledgehammer trick malfunctioned, killing his wife and partner. Blaming his crew for their death, Shattered went on a killing spree taking out 30 audience members and 15 workers. That was the last night he was ever seen. Going to this basement opens the door to his world. Tickets run about $18-$35 at the Basement of the Dead.  

 

3. Massacre Haunted House is located in Naperville, IL. It has more than 60 rooms with over 75 scary creatures walking the halls. Terrifying and gruesome scenes surround you as living nightmares occur around you. There’s no way you can walk through these halls without cowering and screaming. Visit their website for more info, tickets run about $20 or a few dollars more for the 3D experience at Massacre Haunted House.
