Music Blog: It’s Beginning To Sound A Lot Like Christmas

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UIC chapter.

Christmastime is a time for cookie-making (and eating), tree trimming, and plenty of merrymaking. A spell of shopping, skating, and sleeping. Yet, what would most of these festivities be without the appropriate ambience? The most important ingredient that emanates the essence of the season is sound. Jingling bells, crunching snow, crackling fire, wild laughter, and singing—singing along to carols, old and new, in and out of tune.

Music moves us through the seasons and offers reliability. You can count on the return of Christmas songs every year, even if they do creep ever closer to Halloween. Now is the time to listen to songs that make you feel ultra festive, the time to hang up your hang-ups, and leave soon-to-be snowy boots at the door.

I made this grab bag of a playlist for self-proclaimed music gurus, glitter lovers, grandparents and grinches alike. I guess that makes me a little of each? It’s wrapped in crooner classics, indie gems, and a couple covers by artists you’d never imagine singing “Silent Night” in your wildest sugar plum dreams! While not your typical “Christmix”, I soul-sifted for songs that yield magic, as the Yuletide, like music, brings me much joy. I want to now share that joy with you. Start sipping that gingerbread latte, and open your first Christmas gift a little early—I won’t tell.

Merry Music:

Meaghan craves music almost as much as a good cup of coffee or a bagel smothered with cream cheese. Therefore, her most significant contribution to HerCampus arises once a week via her "Music Blog" section. Through this column, Meaghan hopes to inform and excite readers, introducing them to a variety of new music and music-related topics. Although difficult to decipher her crystal ball's contents, she would love to be working towards an outlet that combines design, writing, music, fashion, art and entertainment in the future. Obsessions also include the color pink and quoting her favorite films.
