A Letter To The Women Who Inspire Me

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UIC chapter.

Dear Women Who Inspire Me,

Thank you for being you and being in my life. Most of you know that I’m not one to be sappy, but I felt like this was letter was one that was long overdue. You should know who you are when you read this and if you don’t then I clearly have not told you how you’ve impacted my life. You’ve done so many things that have inspired me to be more like you. If you’re reading this, then I’m assuming that you’re either getting ready to cry or you’re wondering when the hell you’ve inspired me.

Most people think you need to do something big like cure cancer or end world hunger to be an inspiration or role model, but that’s not true. It’s the little things you do that have inspired me. It’s our many talks that we’ve had when I didn’t know what to do. It didn’t matter if we talked occasionally because you came through when I needed you. It didn’t matter that I didn’t want to talk to you that you knew how to help me without so many words or made me talk to you because sometimes you can’t do everything on your own. You taught me to ask for help when I needed to, even though I’m still working on that, but that asking for help doesn’t mean you can’t do it yourself or that you’re weak.

You’ve taught me that the best way to handle rude people is to kill them with kindness, but to always speak my mind when needed. You told me to speak my mind, even if I’m in a crowd of those who disagree with me.  You taught me that I always have a voice and that there are going to be people who don’t always agree with me and that’s okay. You taught me to speak up for what’s right and to not back down when it’s something I truly believe in. You taught me to be unapologetically myself, but that there is always room for growth.

You taught me that I can do anything and to follow my dreams even when things seem like they’re falling apart. I always wonder how I got so lucky to have someone as wonderful as you to be in my life.  You inspire me with everything you do and everything you’ve taught me. You inspire me each day to be a better person than I was the day before. Your unwavering support and guidance is something I am so thankful for.  I look forward to what else you have to teach me and the great things you will do and the great things you will help me achieve.

Sincerely,

The Girl You Inspire Daily
