Baking Bits: Peanut Butter Hearts

 Need to use up that leftover Valentines candy? 

A sweettwist on classic peanut butter cookie is sure to have you falling in love with these sweet treats. 

Ingredients:

1/2 cup shortening

1 1/4 cup peanut butter

1/3 cup granulated sugar

1/3 cup packed light brown sugar

3 tablespoons milk

1 egg

1 teaspoon vanilla

1 1/2 cup flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

48 chocolate chip candies

extra sugar for rolling

Recipe:

1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees

2. Unwrap candies

3. Cream shortening and peanut butter together until smooth

4. Slowly add in sugar, egg, milk, and vanilla. Beat until smooth

5. Graudually beat in flour and baking soda into peanut butter mixture

6.Once blended shape dough into 1 in. balls and roll in granulated sugar

7. Place 2 inches a part on ungreased cookie sheet and press down slightly 

8. Bake 7 to 9 minutes until  lightly browned.

9.Remove from oven and immediately press chocolate candies into the center of the cookies

10. Let cool before eating.
