5 Holiday-Themed Activities

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UIC chapter.

Now that the holidays are near, we are trying to get our holiday shopping done. Shopping malls are filled with people purchasing gifts for their loved ones. But with the holidays, come so many other things. As college students, we have been working our butts off. We long to have time to let our family and friends know how much we love them. There is more than one way of doing that. The best ways of letting someone know you care is by spending quality time with them. Here are some of the ways you can let loved ones know you care about them this Christmas.

1. Take them to do a fun activity (i.e. Ice Skating). In a beautiful city like Chicago, one of the most iconic attractions is the skating rink by Cloud Gate. This is where every couples go to spend time together and enjoy the Chicago skyline view. The atmosphere is perfect for celebrating. People are laughing, Christmas songs are being played and plus you get to practice on your ice skating skills.

2. Go look at a Christmas tree downtown. Nothing says Christmas like a Christmas tree. Not only will a picture of this gorgeous tree make for a good social media post but it’s meant to fill our hearts with the Christmas spirit. Take time to enjoy these colorful lights that will leave you feeling hopeful for a brighter and happier future.

3. Have a personal dinner together. Chicago nights are one of a kind. Chicago’s sultry and jazzy atmosphere is perfect for a night out. There is something for everyone whether you are more of a family person or if you prefer to spend time with your partner. If you do decide a romantic dinner with your partner I would recommend Sofi Restaurant or Everest  which are by far the most upscale and fancy restaurants in the Chicago.

4. Have long conversations by a warm fireplace. Sometimes it is not necessary to go anywhere, an intimate conversation can be held at home. There is nothing more satisfying than having a conversation with someone who understands. Together near the fireplace with Christmas cookies and hot chocolate is the perfect place for opening up.

5. Go snowboarding, skiing, or build a snowman. By far the best free thing we are given for the holiday is snow. Snow something so small that plies up and turns into a wonderful thing. Everything about snow, down to small snowflakes incite fun. I know at least for myself, my childhood would not be the same without the joy of building a snowman or the snow ball fights. Snow brings people together, it helps us bond. There is real teamwork in building a snowman. Take advantage of the snow this year and enjoy!
