We all have long distance friends. All of my best friends happen to be my long distance friendships, which I wouldn’t trade for the world. These girls are the ones I can count on. Some people think long distance friendships don’t last or work out, but I’m here to tell you that they do. Now I’m not saying all long distance friendships work out because sometimes they don’t, but most of them can. Here are five reasons why long distance friendships are the best!
1.They know you the best
These girls know you the best. They know all your embarrassing nicknames that you never want any of your new college friends to hear. They know the one time you fell walking up the stairs to your locker in front of your crush. They remember the girls you disliked and all your heartbreaks and crushes. These girls know you back when you were super dorky and nerdy in high school and still want to be friends with you. If these girls are your friends now, then they will most likely be your friends until the end.
2.When you see them its like no time has passed
When you guys are finally able to see each other, it’s like nothing has changed. There isn’t an awkward silence; you guys are easily able to get back into the swing of things. You and your friends are able to pick up where you left off the last time you saw each other, whether it’s been two weeks or four months.
3.They remind you of who you are
When you’re in college, you can sometimes forget who you are. You become so wrapped up in fitting in with everyone that you lose sight of who you were. Your long distance friends are able to snap you out of it and remind you of who you are. There have been times where I’ve lost sight of who I am, but when I see my best friends I easily remember who I am and stop trying to fit in.
4.They bring back memories
Of course, you’ll have memories with your college friends, but your long distance friends will remind you of all your fun and embarrassing memories. They’ll remind you of your prom memories or all your late night sleepovers. They’ll remind you of your late night ice cream runs because you needed a friend. They’ll remind you of all your car jam sessions where you lip-synced and danced to Taylor Swift and Beyoncé.
No matter what the distance is, these are the girls that will always be in your life. My best friends are spread out everywhere, but when we’re all together nothing has changed. It can be difficult sometimes, but it is worth it if you try!
