Samantha Cadet: Hands on Haiti Member

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UGA chapter.

Our recent campus celeb is Samantha Cadet, a junior international affairs and criminal justice major  from McDonough. As an international affairs major Samantha strives to help the international students on campus through the International Student Life Tax Program.  She is one of the few students in UGA who is trained to help international students do their taxes.

“Its a really fun program and it is great to help international students do their taxes. It’s a different experience for me,” she said.

In the future Samantha is hoping to become an international human rights lawyer and fight against sexual exploitation.

Furthermore, as vice president of Hands on Haiti, Samantha and the president of the organization rebuilt Hands on Haiti the past year  from the ground up by building new connections with other organizations.

Yet for Samantha, being part of the organization wasn’t enough. As a Haitian american, Samantha was able to grow up in her culture but never got to see the place her parents came from. So over the spring break Samantha traveled to Haiti in order to do missionary.

“Being in Haiti changed my life,” she said. “Just being in this beautiful country and seeing it in so much poverty but the people there are still so sweet and willing to help you was amazing.”

During her free time you can find Samantha working as a student supervisor at Tate Cafe or cooking some yummy Haitian food in her own home.

Next time you are thinking of joining a service organization, remember Samantha and Hands on Haiti.
