How Taking Less Credit Hours Changed My Life for the Better

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UGA chapter.

Throughout the first three semesters of college, I’ve always taken the maximum amount of credit hours that was allowed by the university. However, I never quite knew what I was missing until I took four less credit hours this semester.

So this is what freedom feels like…

1. Having more time to invest in your friendships

Taking four less credit hours really makes a difference in your availability for social events. Your schedule opens up because suddenly you spend less time studying and less time in class. Now, you can go do all the things that you were constantly missing out on when you were too busy in class.

2. Having more time to spend studying for your other classes

Now that you’re taking one less class, now all your other classes seem more manageable. More of a balance will enter your life and studying will seem like a less daunting task.

3. Getting in the gym is that much easier

All the times that you used to be available to go to the gym, everyone and their five friends were there. Now, you have the freedom to go in the mornings because every second of your day isn’t filled with school work and other responsibilities.

4.  You have more time to work and earn money

Now that your schedule is a little freer, you can work more shifts and therefore earn more money. This will help you pay for school and manage your increasing social outings.

Taking less classes may be a wound in your pride at first, but in the long run it benefits you in more ways than one.
