Books To Add To Your Winter Reading List

Let’s face it ladies, there is absolutely no time to read while class in is session. Winter break on the other hand is completely free of essays to write, textbooks to read, and tests to study for. Therefore, it is the ideal time to catch up on the really important things in life- your for pleasure reading list you’ve had in the back of your mind for months. Here are ten books to binge read during your winter break.

Shrill: Notes from a Loud Woman 

 

Shrill is from the brilliant and hilarious mind of Lindy West, a well known feminist figure. The memoir is just the feminist pick me up you need after a hard semester.

Bluets

Although Bluets has been around for a while, it’s a quick read by Maggie Nelson that explores her poetic love of the color blue.

Passenger

To get your sci fi fix this winter, Passenger by Alexandra Bracken is the way to go. It just came out in paperback at the beginning of December and the second novel in the trilogy is set to be released in early January. The book follows a time traveling girl and a lot of action.

 

All The Single Ladies: Unmarried Women and the Rise of an Independent Nation

 

Journalist Rebecca Traister explores the dramatic change in the role women play in society today. For the first time in history, women aren’t getting married and are chosing to live independently. A look in how women are kicking butt after this societal change. 

The Lara Jean Series (To All The Boys I Loved Before & P.S. I Still Love You)

A young adult series to add to your list by Jenny Han. The story follows Lara Jean a dreamer who has to deal with the awkward situation of all of her love letters accidentally getting sent out. Han recently announced she wrote a third companion book to this pair of books which will come out in April. Since Han didn’t originally plan on writing a third book, the first two wrap up nicely but you will still want to pick up Forever and Always Lara Jean.

An Indigenous Peoples’ History of the United States

For a little history over your break, pick up this book which shows the history of American told from the people who have been here the longest. It is an eye opening and horrifying read. 

Tales From The Shadowhunter Academy 

Step One: If you haven’t read The Mortal Instruments series, read it right now. Step Two: Read this companion novel which features the iconic characters from Cassandra Clare’s original series.

No matter how long the break, there is no way to forget the real world. Read up on internships and become job ready with Lauren Berger’s advice book. 

Alexander Hamilton

The inspiration for Lin-Manuel Miranda’s hit musical Hamilton is a must read for any history buff or Hamilton buff. The 832 page book is quite a task but the month long December break is the perfect time to take it on.
