Good news- Spring (and more importantly, Spring Break) is just around the corner. Bad news- with lows in the 20’s and 30’s and the bipolar pandemonium that is Georgia weather, we’re not quite out of the drudges of winter. If the winter blues are getting you down, here are a few things you can try.
1. Exercise
You hate it, we hate it (okay, well maybe we just hate it) but it’s simple: exercise makes you feel good, mentally and physically, and look good to boot. Buddle up in the proper gear or stick to the comfort of the gym and get those endorphins pumping. You’ll be feeling better in no time, and get to work early on your bikini body.
2. Go outside anyway
A little sunshine never hurt anybody, even if the temperature is less than ideal. In fact, sunshine will actually increase your serotonin and dopamine levels. The days are getting longer, which means you just have more time to sneak in a moment or two in the sun. Just make sure to wear your coats, scarves, and gloves.
3. Take your mind off things
Volunteer, dance, draw, hang out with your friends, or listen to your favorite music. Whatever it is that makes you happy, do it. Who isn’t happy when they do the things they love? Finding a fun activity or way to pass the time will help take your mind off that winter gloom, especially on the dreariest days!
4. Catharsis
Sometimes you just have to indulge your emotions. Read a sad book or watch a touching movie and go ahead and get those emotions out! Once you do, you might just feel better.
5. Dream about Spring
Ah, Spring, our long lost friend. While it may seem like it’ll never come back, it will be here soon enough. Be ready for it by planning a warm weather get away! When the cold gets you down, you can just imagine yourself basking in the warmth during your planned road trip, cruise, or trip to the beach!
If the winter is getting you down, remember to exercise, get yourself some sun, have some fun and even a good cry, and plan out your perfect warm weather escape. Before you know it, winter, and those wintertime blues will be long gone!
