5 Reasons Why Being Single on Valentine’s Day is Actually the Best

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UGA chapter.

Valentine’s Day is this week and many singles find this romantic holiday to be vastly overrated. Despite all the hatred, Valentine’s Day can actually be really fun! Here are 5 reasons why being single this February 14th is actually a blessing in disguise.

1. You can be lazy (!)

Relationships are constant work. Valentine’s Day is work. And you’ve still got actual work and school this Wednesday! This V-Day, stay in and practice self-care, relax, watch some Netflix and maybe do a face mask. Who doesn’t love being lazy and doing nothing?

2. You are a strong independent woman, who don’t need no man

Not that you can’t be strong and independent WITH a man. But, sometimes it’s nice to be single, uninhibited and free. Remember to enjoy your solo time, while it lasts.

3. Buy yourself some flowers

Cher Horowitz is a cultural icon. A cultural icon who bought herself a bouquet of flowers. There is no reason that you can’t do the same, except for maybe the price. Anyways, it’s the thought that counts, and no one knows what you want better than yourself!

4. Galentine’s Day

Galentine’s Day is the best day of the year and everyone knows it. Enjoy all the perks of this holiday (chocolate, candy hearts, pink and red colored-everything, gifts) with the people who mean the most to you: your girlfriends! Boys may come and go, but girlfriends are forever. While Galentine’s Day technically occurs on the 13th you could always extend the celebration an extra day for the fun of it!

5. You’ve got plenty of time

Don’t fret if you’re single for another Valentine’s Day! You’re young, you’re still in school and you’ve got plenty of time to snag a SO. Valentine’s Day is a holiday made up by corporate America to sell products, anyway.
