The 10 Stages of Thanksgiving Break as Told By New Girl

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UGA chapter.

Thanksgiving break is here! We are all so excited to have a week full of family and fun where we can put school on the back burner for once. Even more exciting, once we get back from the break, the semester is basically over. Who better to detail the emotions we go through over break than Jess, CeCe, Nick, Schmidt and Winston?

1. Excitement

This emotion hits us Friday after we walk out of our last class and we realize that we are free from the heavy chains of school. We are ecstatic that we can sleep in and will have no responsibility for the next nine days.

2. The Journey Home

Many of us have a few hour drive ahead of us, so go ahead and stock up on snacks now and get your road trip playlist together. You stop for some snacks to tide you over, but unfortunately things go south when you inevitably spill it all over your car. But it doesn’t matter because you are free for the next week!

3. The Catch Up with Your High School Besties

Your entire squad from high school is home at the same time as you for once. You plan to catch up with them and have an amazing Friendsgiving. For once, you don’t have to work around everyone’s schedule.

4. Frantically Preparing

You have family coming into town and the house is nowhere near ready to be receiving people. Your mother is running around the house frantically as she tries to clean, go grocery shopping and get yor family together. She enlists you and your siblings for help and your relaxing week is suddenly gone.

5. Football

Get ready to spend the entire day watching football with your family. This has been a long standing tradition and you love it. You couldn’t imagine a better way to spend your weekend than in front of a couch with food and watching your favorite sports team play.

6. The Chill Vibes

After everything is in the oven, you are left to chill and enjoy some eggnog as you wait for it all to cook. The hard part about preparing for Thanksgiving is over and now you are ready to indulge in a feast.

7. The Anticipation

You’re forced to look at all the good food on the table while you have to wait for your family to be as ready as you are. Inevitably, you have that one family member who is last to the table and is holding up everything. But what’s family without that on crazy person?

8. The Feast

You attempt to help your mother cook, but you end up being more of a liability than actual help. You decide to stick to cleaning the house and cleaning up after dinner because everyone is better off that way and you want to have something that’s actually edible to eat for dinner.

9. The Food Coma

After you ate four courses of rich food you are done. All you can do is lay on the floor and think about how full you are. You mindlessly watch TV as you wait for your food coma to pass. Eventually, as you start feeling less full, you get back up again and eat another piece of pie.

10. The Mountain of Leftovers

You eat turkey all weekend for breakfast, lunch and dinner and you will never get tired of it. This is a once in a year event, so you have no regrets with your eating habits. Eating clean and going on diets will be saved for your New Year’s resolution in January!

Enjoy your break and take some much deserved down time!
