UF Wakeboard Club President Dixie Smith

Her Campus: What is your position on campus?Dixie Smith: “President of UF Wakeboard Club.”

HC: How did you get involved with UF Wakeboarding?DS: “I met the surf club at RecStravaganza Fall 2012 and got introduced to the wake club and Wahines of the Waves. I loved surfing and wakeboarding and really clicked with the crew. The president of wake club at the time is now my boyfriend of two and a half years and really pushed me to where I am today.”

HC: What is your favorite part of being involved?DS: “Ties between going huge and getting tons of air on a wakeboard and being with all the awesome and hyped people.”

HC: And the biggest challenge?DS: “Finding time behind a boat to practice and get all of the other members out on the water. Also painful falls.”

HC: What other things are you involved in on campus?DS: “President of Wahines of the Waves (all girls surf, skate and wakeboard club), founding member of Omega Phi Alpha service sorority, UF pre-dental ASDA, Surf Club, research and volunteering at Shands orthodontics department.”

HC: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?DS: “Hard to say but probably something like skydiving or surfing with my newborn.”

HC: What is your dream job?DS: “If I could somehow make a living traveling the world and doing high-energy stuff with Red Bull, that’d be tight.”

HC: What are your hobbies?DS: “Fishing, spearfishing, free diving, boating, skating, longboarding, traveling, painting, cooking and crossfit.”

HC: What advice would you give to new students?DS: “Find a big group of people who you are always excited to be around, pick up a new sport, find a new passion. Give yourself a break from school but don’t lose focus.”

HC: What is your favorite memory at UF so far?DS: “Wakefest 2013, a contest we hold at Lake Wauburg every year. It’s a good time: food, live music, pro demos, free giveaways. This year’s is actually April 18, so everyone should come out!”
