Matthew Kazaleh ’16

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UFL chapter.

If you’re looking for tall, dark and handsome, then this week’s Campus Cutie might be the guy for you. He’s funny, smart and will love binge-watching Grey’s Anatomy with you. Meet Matthew Kazaleh!

Matthew is a 22-year-old senior from Jacksonville, and he’s majoring in biology with a minor in public health. On campus, Matthew is a general chemistry stockroom attendant, an introduction to chemistry peer mentor and is involved in analytical chemistry research. He also participates in Relay for Life and intramural flag football.

Matthew describes himself as “opinionated and stubborn.” He’s also a huge Starbucks junkie, which is one of his favorite Gainesville coffee shops. “I go to Starbucks three times a day,” he said. Matthew’s favorite college memory was when Florida beat Florida State in football during his senior year. “Oh wait… that hasn’t happened yet,” he joked.

He also wants to do a bit of traveling. Matthew said he dreams of visiting a place you might have seen on your smartphone’s homepage. “The generic wallpaper on iPhones depicting houses floating on crystal clear water is real! They are a group of islands off the coast of India known as the Maldives. I will own one of the islands one day,” he said. Matthew also likes to live life on the edge. “I once put Sprite in a water cup at Chipotle,” he said. But like any other guy, he also has a few fears. “I am deeply afraid of not achieving my goals, however far fetched they may be. And armadillos. Armadillos scare me. I mean really, what do armadillos even do?” he asked.

Matthew is currently single, and he’s looking for a girl who is motivated and mature, as well as beautiful and well mannered. “A girl’s posture says a lot about her personality,” he said. On a first date, Matthew would love to take his special someone to a nice, quiet restaurant, followed by Starbucks, of course. Matthew said his dream girl is Blake Lively, mainly because of her smile. “Her smile makes this world a better place,” he said.

After graduation, Matthew wants to attend medical school in hopes of becoming a surgeon. “I will be applying this June. In the meantime, I will most likely start a Masters in public health,” he said. Matthew’s dream job is to be Chief of Surgery at Seattle Grace Hospital.

How does Matthew feel about being this week’s Campus Cutie, you might ask? “I thought this was Match.com,” he replied finally with a frown.
