How to Make Your Spring Break a Staycation

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UFL chapter.

Are you going to be at home during Spring Break? No problem. I have spent plenty of Spring Breaks over the years at home. That being said, I’ve learned what it takes to turn a week at home into more of a “staycation.” I’m fortunate to have a group of friends that will always go along with the random ideas I come up with, and I’m here to share some of my favorites.

1. Homemade slip ‘n’ slide: This is easier than you think! Find an old tarp in your garage and use the hose for a simple way to beat the heat. Bonus points if you have popsicles while waiting for your turn.

2. Stargazing and s’mores: I have a friend who lives on the water, and we set up camp on the dock — tent and all — for night of stargazing and s’mores, and it’s one of my favorite memories. When we woke up, we were greeted by a sunrise on the water. Even if you set up camp in your backyard, I can promise it’ll be well worth it.

3. Exploring downtown: Wherever you may be from, there’s probably a cool downtown area for you to check out. There are usually cool cafes and antique shops to see. Just walking around can quickly become an adventure.

4. Water balloon or paint fight: I’ve done both and I’m not sure which one is more fun. The more people you get involved in the activity, the more fun you’ll have, and the more space you have makes it even better!

5. Photoshoot: Grab your camera and your friends, and find an aesthetic spot to take some cool photos. It could be in your favorite park, by a cool mural or even your front porch. If not for anything else, you’ll at least have a new profile picture by the end of break.

6. Late-night breakfast: This is a highly underrated activity. Pancakes and bacon are somehow even more delicious when they’re half-off during the wee hours of the morning. Call your friends for a spontaneous adventure and enjoy!

Even if you are traveling during your spring break, you can still do these activities all the time. Enjoy your break and be safe!
