7 Bra Options for People Who Hate Bras

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UFL chapter.

We all know that glorious feeling at the end of the day when you get home and the first thing you do is slip off your bra. Bras have the important job of making you feel supported –– unfortunately not all bras are completely painless. Loose underwire, tight straps and weird-fitting bras are the banes of my existence. However, there are ways to wear bras that fix some of the problems associated with traditional bras. I’ve rounded up a list of bras that are perfect for the girl who hates the traditional feeling of bras.

1. Lace

Lace bras tend to have little to no underwire making them a comfy and cute alternative to a typical wire bra. You can wear them with a mesh top or with a simple t-shirt. Try this racerback from Free People for an instant wardrobe staple.

2. T-shirt bra

Just like its namesake, this bra was made to be worn with a t-shirt because it gives you a seamless look. A bonus is that these bras feel like you’re wearing nothing at all while still offering support. If you’re looking for an option that is still fun, look no further than this one from Victoria’s Secret –– it comes in multiple shades of neon for that fun pop of color.

3. No underwire

Underwire is one of the biggest reasons bras can be so uncomfortable. If your bra is making you feel constrained, try a bra with no underwire like this one from Victoria’s Secret. These bras are so comfortable you could probably fall asleep in them.

4. Sports bra

If you’re wearing a muscle tee or just a t-shirt, sports bras can give you a perfect amount of coverage and support. There’s no rule against wearing a sports bra in day to day life so embrace the comfort. Try this simple sports bra from Nordstrom.

 5. Bandeau

A bandeau is basically the same as a tube top, meaning that not only could you wear them as a bra, but also as a shirt. They are perfect beneath spaghetti strapped shirts or a cute pair of denim overalls. This bandeau from Free People can be worn underneath a shirt or worn by itself.

6. Bralette

Bralettes are a common alternative to a traditional bra because of their lack of padding and wire. They’re comfortable and can add something extra to any outfit. They can make an outfit cute and casual or sexy and interesting. This bralette from American Eagle has an interesting back that is perfect to show off with a shirt with a low-cut back.

7. Slight push up

The reality is that sometimes we all want a little bit of lift in our lives. For those days, a bra with a just a bit of push up is good for some lift without compromising comfort. This bra from American Eagle has soft padding and thicker straps to relieve stress on your shoulders.

Whether you’re a bra lover or bra hater, you have options that allow you to live a life of comfort without compromising style. Another tip: make sure you’re buying bras in your correct size to ensure you’re giving yourself the right amount of support. You can get sizing at any Victoria’s Secret, making it easy to find your best fit.
