6 Must-See Summer Movies

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UFL chapter.

Summer is a time for going to the beach, spending time with your family, hanging out with your friends and watching the latest summertime blockbusters. Summer movies have been advertised throughout the winter and spring because executives know that students are more likely to go to movies with their friends in the summer when school is out. Busy collegiettes can spend time at the movies with family, friends or even a hot date. Here are six of the must-see movies of the summer.

1. Pitch Perfect 2 (May 15): After the first Pitch Perfect’s amazing success with fan bases, radio stations and songs around the world, the sequel is anticipated to have just as much success. This movie is about an international a cappella competition that an American team has never been able to win before. Starring Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson and Elizabeth Banks once again, the movie is sure to be the perfect chick-flick comedy of the summer.

2. Tomorrowland (May 22): Ever explored Tomorrowland in Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom with all of its futuristic rides and robots? Disney has made a movie inspired by this section of the park. Tomorrowland will star Britt Robertson and George Clooney. The plot of this movie is about a teenage girl and man who used to be a boy-genius trying to understand a place that is within time and space as well as their memories.

3. Jurassic World (June 12): I remember as a child I loved watching the first three Jurassic Park movies with my mom in my family room. Even today, when one of these movies is on, she and I will stop what we’re doing and watch it. From executive producer Steven Spielberg, the theme park envisioned in the first few movies has now come to life. This movie takes place 22 years after the events of the first Jurassic Park movie. People from all over the world travel to the theme park when something horrible occurs, and the family friendly park turns into a nightmare.

4. Ted 2 (June 26): In the sequel to the popular comedy, Ted must prove that he is a person when he and Tami-Lynn want to have a baby after their marriage. They must prove in the court of law that Ted the teddy bear is actually a human. Amanda Seyfried helps Ted prove his case in court. Starring Seth MacFarlane and Mark Wahlberg once again, this comedy is sure to keep you laughing.

5. Minions (July 10): Everyone’s favorite minions, Stuart, Kevin and Bob, are in search of a new master in this film. They travel to New York City to find a villain to follow. Sandra Bullock, who plays Scarlett Overkill, becomes the villain who recruits the minions to follow her.

6. Fantastic Four (August 7): The Fantastic Four movies are back with this new take on the original that premiered in 2005. This movie shows four scientists who achieve superhuman powers through an experiment gone wrong. Mr. Fantastic, The Invisible Woman, The Thing and The Human Torch must use their new powers to save the planet. Miles Teller, Michael Jordan, Kate Mara and Jamie Bell star in this new take on the original.

No matter what your favorite genre may be, there is definitely a movie being released this summer that’ll satisfy your love of movies!
