10 Things a Single Girl Can do to Make Her Valentine’s Day Fabulous

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UFL chapter.

Valentine’s Day is no longer just for people in romantic relationships. Single collegiettes can make this day as amazing and fabulous as we want it to be. Valentine’s Day 2015 is on a Saturday, which is actually beneficial to everyone. Without classwork or exams to deal with, the world is ours and the day is what we make it. So many movies portray girls despising and hating Valentine’s Day when instead, it should be embraced as a fun day to treat ourselves to whatever we want. Here’s a list of fun things that single ladies can do on Valentine’s Day to have a ton of fun despite your relationship status.

1. Go to a movie: 50 Shades of Grey is my favorite book and it comes out Valentine’s Day weekend as a major motion picture. This is the perfect opportunity to get a group of your friends together, hit up the concession stand and enjoy some of the most talked-about movies of the season.

2. Bake cookies or cupcakes: Any excuse to make or eat desserts sounds great to me. Whip up some cookies from scratch, or simply purchase some cookie dough at Publix to eat raw. Cupcakes can be fun to decorate with hearts and sprinkles in the spirit of Valentine’s Day.

3. Have a cliché chick flick night: Frozen, Mean Girls, The Notebook and the chick flick titles go on and on. Invite friends over and have a night filled with your favorite movies. Turn the night into a sleepover with your best friends like you used to do back in high school.

4. Get crafty: Raid Michael’s and Jo-Ann Fabric and purchase as much glitter and paint as you can fit into your shopping cart. Paint canvases, wine glasses and even Bubba Kegs with your favorite colors and designs.

5. Go on a mini road trip: Visit somewhere you have never been before. Head down to a beachy town, or road trip up into the mountains. Enjoy the gorgeous landscape and take advantage of your weekend away.

6. Take an art class: Most towns have art studios with step-by-step instructions on how to paint a gorgeous picture. I took a class on sunflower painting and through the class, my non-crafty self transformed into an artist.

7. Go to a spa: Today is a day to treat yourself! Go all out and have a day filled with relaxation. Sign up for manicure and pedicure appointments. Get a Swedish massage or enjoy a mud bath for the first time.

8. Have a girl’s night: Make it a wine night, karaoke night — you name it. Have fun with your friends and have a night all to yourselves. Use the night to catch up with the friends you’ve been too busy to see lately.

9. Have an outdoorsy day: I can imagine the Instagram and Snapchat pictures now. Visit your closest state park or reserve and enjoy a day to yourself in nature. Find the local animals and enjoy the gorgeous scenery as a nice change of pace..

10. Go on a shopping spree: Take this beautiful Saturday and head down to Orlando where there are tons of shopping opportunities. Head to the Mall at Millenia or go to the International Premium Outlets to find lots of good deals.

Valentine’s Day should not be a day to dread by single girls everywhere. Make this day all about yourself and go all out! Have an amazing time doing whatever you love. Treat yourself and you will be happy you did. Before you know it, you’ll be counting down the days until next year’s Valentine’s Day with a smile on your face.
