DIY Thanksgiving Decor

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCSD chapter.

Halloween is over, which means it’s almost Turkey Day! As excited as we are to stuff our faces with cornbread and cranberry sauce, we know it’s still a couple weeks away. Therefore, to keep the anticipation of the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday going, we came up with a few DIY projects that will spice up your apartment and set the mood for Thanksgiving!

Gold Painted Foliage

This DIY gold painted leaf is the cutest accent to any house and it is super cost effective. Go to your local dollar store and pick up some fake leaves (or find some real leaves on the floor). You can either use spray paint or craft paint to get your leaf golden. This example uses gold paint, but try out different colors to create a unique touch to your space! Hang the leaves in a frame, or decorate your walls with them! If you want, paint the leaves with your housemates and write your names on the leaves for a personal touch

Crafty Candles

I personally love candles, but scented candles can get expensive. Create your own scent with DIY candles! Find your favorite fall foods and dump it into a vase. Place a candle on top of the food and viola! You have personalized candles with your favorite scent.

Cute Centerpiece

A nice way to incorporate the fall theme into your home is to to create your own centerpiece. Warm hues of orange and pretty flowers will set the vibe for the upcoming holiday. Grab your favorite flowers from the dollar store or Michaels and arange them into a bouquet in a vase. Add mini pumpkins as an added touch!

Door Decor

Do you want to feel the holiday spirit even before you enter your house? Add a Thanksgiving inspired wreath to your door! You can buy a wood wreath and glue twigs and flower to the base. You will be feeling festive in no time!

 Turkey Turkey Turkey

It wouldn’t be Thanksgiving with turkeys! It’s time for an upgrade from your colored paper turkeys that you made by outlining your hands to our favorite pine cone turkeys! This 3 dimensional turkey will add a cute and cuddly element to your fall decorations. Purchase some colored feathers and googley eyes. Stick them onto a pine cone for a DIY turkey decoration!

These fun, festive DIY projects are sure to get you feeling thankful this November! Happy Thanksgiving!
