Despite sorority and fraternity rivalries across the country, this past week was one of unity for the Greek system. Especially at UCSB, the entire Greek System put their heads together to raise funds in order to send Isla Vista Elementary School children to a science camp. This was a great way to unify every chapter while helping others!

Greek members are not strangers to community service, volunteering, and constantly helping others, but it is not often that they get to raise awareness in their very own community. We may all think of the beach, cheap beer, plastic handles, and the pirate when reminiscing on Isla Vista, but believe it or not...an elementary school and young children do exist in our vicinity!

Every single sorority and fraternity started off the week with a fundraiser at Dogtown, where the proceeds of each hotdog bought went towards the children's science camp. Another money-raising tactic was the sale of Greek Week shirts, which were designed by Panhellenic and bought by the majority of all chapter members. Panhellenic delegate, Maddie Stack, stated that the "the most touching event of the week was the carnival at the elementary school." She said that "the kids had a great time interacting with the Greek life and we hope we made a difference in their lives." It sounds like everyone did just that, because it is not every day that the young students get to participate in everything from face painting to hula hooping and a cake walk. Lastly, ending the week was a fantastic BBQ held at Greek Park, where each house sent a few representatives to paint a new design on the renowned fences. They all look awesome and make the day aesthetically pleasing for everyone who plays volleyball and basketball at the park!

The city of Santa Barbara recognized the amazing efforts of our Greek system and the Panhellenic committee agrees that "Greek Week created an important message to the students at IV elementary and the community of Goleta. When the Greek life of UCSB comes together, they can make a difference."

Snaps for sororities and fraternities! :)
