Top 5 Apps Every Student Should Have

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCSB chapter.

As students we can get overwhelmed with work, extra curricular activities, and our studies. But thanks to technology there are apps created to help students excel and cope with our workload. Here are 5 apps that will make your life a tad bit easier and more enjoyable!

1. Flipboard

Flipboard, also known as a personal magazine, is a place where you can manage all of your social media content, connect with friends and followers, and read stories from around the world. This personal magazine helps weed out what you are uninterested and keep what you prefer. Flipboard is a great way to keep in touch with the world without having to have 10 different networking apps on your phone or computer.

2. Khan Academy

We all love and know Salman Khan aka the founder of Khan Academy. He has helped us study for our math finals, SAT’s, and ACT’s. For those who do not know of Khan Academy, or have been living under a rock, it is a free online educational site that helps teach subject material through YouTube videos. This app is a great way to quickly brush up on some unfamiliar topics right before class or a test!

3. TurboScan

This is one of the most useful apps that a student will come across. Turboscan will turn your phone into a scnnner for all of your documents and texts. All you have to do is take a picture of your document and then store it as a JPEG or PDF file. This will save you from spending a fortune on a scanner when you can have a handheld scanner for only $2.99.

4. ExamTime

ExamTime is a productivity app that is a smarter way for students to study. Examtime allows you to create quizzes, flashcards, notes, and a feature called Mind Map. Mind Map gives an overview of your study topic and helps plan and connect different areas of your desired subject. You can also create study groups, a study planner, and private messages with fellow classmates and friends.

5. Yelp

As students in a four year university, we can sometimes be tight on money. Yelp, although a great way to read opinions about different businesses, also has a special feature in the filters where we can look at different businesses when on a budget. After clicking the filter button, you can pick your desired price for restaurants, activities, and even financial services. Yelp also offers great deals and coupons for some businesses, making it easier for our wallets!

Rachel is a senior at UC Santa Barbara and studies Communication and Global Peace and Security. Rachel is from a small, beautiful town in southern California called Palos Verdes. However, Palos Verdes is just one of the many places Rachel has lived. Rachel spent her childhood moving and traveling all over the world, living in places such as Indianapolis, Indiana; Santiago, Chile; Vienna, Austria; and Orlando, Florida. Rachel has found her heart and her home in California, choosing to spend her college years in sunny Santa Barbara. However, Rachel continued her wanderlust when she studied abroad in Barcelona, Spain in Fall 2012. At UCSB, Rachel is an immensely dedicated and involved member of her sorority Kappa Kappa Gamma, where she held the positions of Panhellenic Delegate, Inter-Greek Counselor, Rho Gam, and a member of the Nominating Slate. Best Buddies, a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment, and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, is a passion of Rachel's, as she is their Social Media Coordinator as well as an active and proud member. As a member of the Lambda Pi Eta Communication Honors Society, Rachel is able to implement her prowess and affinity for communication and communication-related issues. When Rachel is not writing, participating in Kappa events, or volunteering, you can find her in the gym, on the soccer field, watching Modern Family, or cooking. Rachel's love for sports, food, and writing often times go hand-in-hand, as one may see in her weekly blogs. For the past two summers, Rachel has been freelance writing for the Los Angeles Times, and hopes to continue her career pursuit of journalism after she graduates. Rachel is elated to be a part of Her Campus's fabulous team and loves every moment of it!
