The Signs of Spring Quarter at UCSB

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCSB chapter.

Spring has sprung and for the many colleges that are on the semester system, the culmination of another school year is in sight. For us Gauchos in Santa Barbara, however, midterm season has only just begun. But that does not mean everything is dark, depressing, and dreary; in fact, it might as well be the exact opposite. Spring quarter is a beautiful, in-between time — not as hot or fiery as fall quarter nor as wet or gloomy as winter quarter.

The days are slowly becoming warmer, and although there still is the chill of winds from the ocean, the sun is a radiant goddess. More and more people take to the green, grassy patches on campus, basking like cats in the sun during the little moments between classes. Hordes of high school seniors with their parents start to invade with wide, wandering eyes, clutching those familiar maps and tour packets and reminding us of a simpler time when college was as unfamiliar to us as it is to them now.

The “Free & For Sale” page on Facebook becomes bombarded with people selling their clothes, shoes, bikes, furniture, boards, etc. In many ways, spring quarter is a hectic time, the cusp of summer busied with spring cleaning, job interviews, summer plans, graduation. Yet simultaneously, it is a time tinged with nostalgia, warm, peaceful days with the scent of summer, and the aching, overwhelming sense that things can never be the same thereafter.

Hi, Collegiettes! I'm Carmen, a Communication major at University of California, Santa Barbara and one of two Campus Correspondents for UCSB. I would love to one day work in either fashion, food, tech, financial services or philanthropy. My dream is to find a job that somehow combines several of those elements. Until I get there, I'll be munching on copious amounts of Trader Joe's dried mango, jamming out to my man, Frank Sinatra, and focusing on creating intriguing content! If you like my writing, talk to me. ;)
