You Know You're a Gaucho When...

By Rachel Miller
May 20, 2013 - 7:59pm

With graduation quickly approaching, I realized that there is a certain set of requisites that allows you to call yourself a true, blue and gold Gaucho. You know you’re a Gaucho when... 1. You darty all day, and then successfully make it out at night 2. You share a bathroom with 4+ people 3. You eat Freebirds in the middle of the day and don’t give a damn what anyone else thinks 4. You've embraced soccer, lacrosse, and water polo (football is stupid anyways...) 5. You constantly have to park 5 blocks away from your house...and always ask a friend to come pick you up 6. You skip class to go nap at the beach 7. You’ve done the loop…or at least a fraction of it READ MORE

Laguna Beach: Where Are They Now?

By Maya Wong
May 17, 2013 - 6:08pm

Listening to Hilary Duff’s “Coming Clean” while slapping on a black choker and a denim, mini skirt can only mean one thing…LAGUNA BEACH! You would be lying if you said that you never enjoyed “the Real Orange County”. Hook ups, house parties, high school drama–it was all too good to miss! Whether you were Team LC (Kristin was such a sloot) or Team Kristin (LC needs to stop pretending to be so innocent), I think it's safe to assume that we are all wondering where our favorite Laguna teens ended up. A Letter to the Not-So-Prince-Charmings of IV

By Kate Slaughter
May 14, 2013 - 2:49pm

It's no secret that Isla Vista is home to some pretty ill-mannered bachelors, but this "hook up culture" we're living in has gotten ridiculous. No, I don't want to meet up at your frat's "late night," and I definitely don't want to "hang out" at midnight. It's come to the point where casual has shifted to confusion. Who is initiating what? Where is the line between "casually hooking up" and "exclusivity"? Do I seem too available? Is he too available? It has snowballed into a game of "who can care less," and, I for one, am tired of playing. READ MORE

By Maya Wong
May 7, 2013 - 3:30am

Our favorite A-listers gathered on Sunday night for the annual Met Ball in New York City. Regarded as the top annual social event in NYC, you can bet every celebrity from Beyonce to Dakota Fanning broke out their haute couture designer dresses for the black tie affair. Here are some celebrities that made my best and worse dressed list: Best Dressed Blake "can do no wrong" Lively READ MORE

The Over-Thinker's Guide to First Date Food

By Helen Irias
May 6, 2013 - 11:34pm

So here’s the situation: You are Taylor Swift, and the hot, older guy in the leather jacket says he’ll pick you up at 6, and no subsequent questions are asked. He will somehow zoom up to your driveway, sitting at the wheel of a gleaming Stang...even though you never exchanged addresses. Nevertheless, your evening is about to be whimsically romantic. However, before you can “dance around your room til the night ends,” you’ve got to get through the first date--and part of this probably involves eating food. On a first date, participants are usually at their peak confidence level, but messy meal disasters can sometimes put a damper on one’s ego. READ MORE

By Maya Wong
May 5, 2013 - 2:16pm

It’s already Week 6 of Spring Quarter, and it’s about that time in the quarter in which all of us are SO over it--the midterms, the 8:00 a.m. sections graded on participation, and the realization that we will always be behind on our class reading. The only thought getting me through the “Week 6 Struggles” is the fact that summer is only 5 weeks away! However, this means you have 5 shorts weeks to decide what you want to do with your 3 months of freedom. But, don't fret--Her Campus is here to help you avoid a summer spent watching ABC Family Nicholas Sparks marathons on your couch with your two boyfriends Ben & Jerry. Instead, just pick one (or more!) of the following active and exciting HC-approved Summer 2013 activities: ...

Freedom: Reasons Why I Didn't Go to Class Today, and Why I Find Them Valid

By Kelsey Roshetko
April 30, 2013 - 4:50pm

Though I am a student quite dedicated to her grades, I often play hooky. To further justify why I do so, I have compiled a list of my most common excuses so that you, too, can be as guilt-free as a Skinny Cow ice cream bar. Enjoy! And if you're reading this in the midst of a lecture, I'm sorry I didn't get to you sooner. 1. It’s Raining (Now, Yesterday, or Even Tomorrow) READ MORE

4 Traditions to Love in Spring

By Kate Slaughter
April 28, 2013 - 10:14pm

Despite the preconceived stereotype of straight up debauchery, Isla Vista is a town chock-full of traditions. Whether you’re burning a couch on DP or eating Freebirds while blacked out, odds are you have probably played into one of the many traditions that make IV so unique. To sum up a few of the top traditions that fall within the greatest quarter at UCSB, here are 4 traditions to love in spring:  READ MORE
