7 Ways to Have a More Productive Weekend

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCSB chapter.

The weekend comes around and on Friday night, you tell yourself you’re going to stay on task, study and finish that assignment that was due yesterday. Flash forward to Sunday night and you realize you haven’t done anything school related these past two days. Here’s how to avoid that dreaded Sunday night feeling:

1.  Do NOT oversleep: I know, the last thing anyone wants to do is wake up early on the weekend, but staying in bed all day is counterproductive. You don’t need to wake up at the crack of dawn, but preferably before noon. Think of all the errands you can finish while everyone else is still sleeping! You’ll feel a lot more accomplished instead of guilty for sleeping in.

2.  Set goals: Tell yourself what you want to accomplish by the end of the day and then write a To-Do list. The list acts as a visual of what you want to get done as opposed to pushing your obligations to some random corner in your mind. Plus, checking off various tasks from your list as you finish them is such a great feeling!

3.  Stick to a schedule: You know that one time when you gave yourself a 20 minute break even though you only studied for five? Scheduling your time will help you avoid this. Set aside a time for when you want to start a task and when you want to finish it. By doing so, you’re more likely to stay focused and not spend an extra ten minutes on Instagram. You’ll manage your time and use it more efficiently.

4.  Avoid hangovers: This one speaks for itself. If you’re not feeling your best then chances are you’re going to stay in bed all day recovering from the night before, which is something you don’t want to do if you have a busy day ahead of you.

5. Disconnect: Smartphones = procrastination. Put your phone somewhere you can’t easily access it to prevent you from scrolling through your various timelines when you should be studying for your upcoming exam.

6. Exercise: I totally feel you, finding the motivation to get your obligations done is hard enough, let alone going to the gym, but exercise gets your blood pumping, heart rate up and the increased endorphins will leave you feeling empowered to meet your goals.

7. Treat yo’ self: You’re waking up early, exercising and getting sh** done! Like, who are you? Stuff your face with fro-yo, take an extra long nap or do some online shopping cause you’ve definitely deserved it.
