5 Wellness Trends You Should Know About

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCSB chapter.

Health and wellness trends come and go. Some of them are better left forgotten, while others might actually hold some truth to them. Here’s the scoop on 5 popular wellness trends that you might already be familiar with:

1. Meditation & Mindfulness Practices

Yes, it’s true! Meditation and practicing mindfulness has shown to not only boost productivity, but also increase happiness. With convenient apps like Headspace or Calm, the benefits can literally be right at your fingertips.

2. Self-Care

Self-care is not an indulgence; it’s a necessity for anyone. In the hubbub of school or work, or any other obligations, it’s important to put yourself first and give yourself some time to just…breathe.

3. Matcha

Yeah, matcha madness is real…but so are the health benefits of this antioxidant-rich superfood. From boosting metabolism to helping brain function, matcha is no joke. So go ahead, sip that matcha latte and indulge in its benefits!

4. Bone Broth

Bone broth isn’t a new thing. It’s actually been used by many cultures as a simple soup base for a very long time. More recently, though, it’s been taking the health community by storm—and for good reasons too! It’s packed with serious health benefits, from bone health to gut health.

5. Interval Training

You might have heard of HIIT (high-intensity interval training) before, but what exactly is it? Simply put, it’s a very efficient way to work out. When you give cardio or other exercises your all for one minute followed by a rest period, your metabolism gets a boost. Now compare that to a low-intensity workout you’d have to do for a longer period of time to get the same result. Efficiency is key!

Health trends are always coming and going, so it’s always important to be as informed as possible about what’s actually good for you and what are health fads.

Hi, Collegiettes! I'm Carmen, a Communication major at University of California, Santa Barbara and one of two Campus Correspondents for UCSB. I would love to one day work in either fashion, food, tech, financial services or philanthropy. My dream is to find a job that somehow combines several of those elements. Until I get there, I'll be munching on copious amounts of Trader Joe's dried mango, jamming out to my man, Frank Sinatra, and focusing on creating intriguing content! If you like my writing, talk to me. ;)
