Stuck in Storrs for Valentine's Day?

As we all know, UConn = Storrs and although that is usually not a problem it can be on Valentine’s Day. If you are a freshman or sophomore than you are more than likely stuck with no car. Here are something’s to do with your significant other on Valentine’s Day when you’re stuck on campus.
Option 1: Dinner and movie at the Union
Although dinner and movie is very cliché, it is also the most convenient and cheap. You can grab dinner at Chuck and Augies. Although they do have a limited menu, the food is very good (and you can use points after 3 p.m.!) After dinner head to the Student Union Theatre to check out Couples Retreat featuring Vince Vaughn. It will be playing at 6 p.m. and 9 p.m and is only $2 per ticket. If you do plan on heading over to the Union make sure you get there early since Chuck and Augies doesn’t take reservations.
Option 2: Dinner at the Nathan Hale Inn
Most UConn students are unfamiliar with the two restaurants located inside of the Nathan Hale Inn (located next to South Campus.) so although they are a bit pricey you are much more likely to have a smaller wait than if you were to go to Chuck and Augies.
True Blue Tavern – The True Blue Tavern has a casual dining atmosphere with an UConn athletic theme. The menu, which features American cuisine, is divided up into “The Pregame, Half-time, and Game Time entrees.” Prices are reasonable with a burger costing about $10.
Check out the menu here.
The Blue Oak– The Blue Oak is a more formal restaurant with a white table cloth dinner setting. The menu consists of Seafood, Steak, Chicken and Pasta. It is a bit more expensive with an entrée costing around $20. It is recommended that you call ahead and make reservations.
Check out the menu here.
Option 3: Off-campus dinner
You can check out places like Friendly’s and Wooster Street Pizza for a more casual dining setting. Both are located across from E.O. Smith High School and the Sunday shuttle does bring you to Mansfield apartments which are only a short walk to the shopping center. Both have reasonable prices.
Option 4: Dinner and movie out of town
If you don’t have a car there is a way for you to celebrate Valentine’s Day with your loved one off campus. However, you’d have to celebrate on Saturday. The WRTD bus stops at Whitney, Shippee, and Mansfield Town Center on Saturdays and is free to UConn students. It is only a short bus ride to several other dining options such as Applebee’s and Angelinos and Mansfield Movieplex where you can catch the most recent movies. Although you are not celebrating on the actual holiday, you will have more options and it will be less crowded.
Check out the WRTD bus schedule.
Option 5: Spend a romantic night in
Talk to your roommate (or have your boyfriend talk to his) about having the room to yourself on Valentine’s Day. Order your favorite food, put in your favorite romantic movie (my personal favorite is Titanic) and cuddle up with your boyfriend. This option is much more romantic and intimate than doing dinner and a movie.
Option 6: Take a walk together to Horse barn Hill
This is another romantic option; although, it may not be that pleasurable with the freezing temperatures and snow on the ground (you may want to save this idea for later on) it is very romantic to be by yourself with such beautiful scenery.
Even if you're unable to get off campus, there are plenty of options to still make Valentine's Day fun and special!
