Who is the Super Bowl’s “Left Shark”?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCLA chapter.

For those of you who missed the Super Bowl Halftime Show, it featured more than just Katy Perry, Missy Elliot and Lenny Kravitz. Katy Perry’s backup dancers, two people in shark costumes, stole the show – well, one of them did at least. “Left shark,” as the shark on the left has been lovingly dubbed, stood out for all the wrong reasons. Instead of following the choreography, he kind of went loopy, but has since been embraced by the Internet as his mistake went viral.

Take a look:

What he was supposed to do (What Right Shark did):

What Left Shark did in slow motion:

Though this poor human being may have just blown his chance as the biggest back-up dancer of all time, he also may have become the most famous person in a shark-costume to ever live. This hilarious display has the rest of us laughing and taking a second-look.

Snoop Dogg jokingly posted on Twitter that he was the Left Shark, but who was REALLY inside? Here are some fantasies and possibilities of the identity of this creature:

1. An obsessed fan who snuck in as an imposter.

2. Whoever these people are – a strange cast of Duck Dynasty?

3. Jennifer Lawrence moonlighting as her role as Tiffany in Silver Linings Playbook.

4. The new queen of strange performances.

5. Merely a drunk wanna-be dancer.

6. A bored and/or drowsy Harry Styles.

7. Katy Perry herself, as her crazy alter ego in Last Friday Night.

8. The REAL Left Shark: Bryan Gaw.

The real Left Shark is this budding dancer, who was likely merely sleep-deprived as he perhaps ended his career as a famous back-up shark dancer. He has certainly brightened up the Internet in the past week, however. Many have been cheered up by this embrassing performance, and fans have decided to create numerous memes and tributes to this brazenly faulty sea animal “Left Shark.”
