UCLA NEWS: Circus Oz Comes to Perform!

Well, sometimes super exciting, and quite random, events happen at UCLA. For example, got nothing to do on a Saturday afternoon? (Or do you want to procrastinate just a bit longer?). This Saturday, February 9, 2013, a circus group from Australia came to perform at Royce Hall for UCLA students and LA-area citizens. There was a wide range of performance-goers. It was such a jaw-dropping show with a great message at the end.

From crazy tumbling routines to juggling with her feet and hands all at once (credits to the brilliant Hazel Bock), the Aussies sure did know how to put on a great act. This two-hour show had you guessing what was about to happen next. In the beginning of the event, MC Ghenoa Gela was eating an apple while saying “we are what we eat.” She explained that the reason she was an apple was because she was round, sweet, and soft in the middle. She pointed to audience members describing what types of fruits they were.

At the end of the show, Gela came out to wrap up her “you are what you eat” spiel. She had the audience say that we wanted fruit salad, and she then proceeded to explain that the world is all one big fruit salad. Gela said that we should all learn to live and love one another, despite the fact that we are all different “fruits,” for we are all sweet deep down inside.

Overall, the play was very entertaining and different from what students would do on any old Saturday afternoon. And the message that was made was even more tremendous. Students, take advantage of all that UCLA has to offer! Go do something creative next time you get the chance; it’s really worth it.
