This weekend UCLA will be hosting LA Hacks, the priemere hackathon of the west coast. According to the LA Hacks website, a hackathon is a student competition to build the most exciting technology products within 36 hours. Technology professionals judge the software and hardware based off of creativity, technical difficulty, polish, and usefulness. Winners will recieve $20,000 worth of prizes. The event is free for hackers and includes in-state transportation, food, and drinks. This year, LA Hacks is organizing a petting zoo for the hackers as a break.
This year, LA Hacks is partnering with Wonder Women Hacks, “the leading hackathon for women, teens, and men who are passionate about the ever changing needs of women across the planet” according to the LA Hacks Facebook page.
The event is sponsored by most of the top companies in tech all across the nation. According to the Daily Bruin, Sigma Eta Pi and Bruin Entrepreneurs are both organizing the event which will cost about $250,000.
