Keep Cozy and Carry On

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCLA chapter.

So November has officially begun and LA saw quite a bit of heat at the beginning of this month. However, I think it’s safe to say it’s finally cooling down into a crisp winter chill. As the temperatures drop, many of us are trying to bundle up and stay warm. This means pulling out our sweaters, scarves, and boots and starting to layer for the cold. While the summer season allows us Bruinettes to show off our cute skirts and dresses, it’s still possible to dress cute and manage to stay comfortable.

  1. Layering-In some ways, you can say layering is a very methodical process. Camis or ribbed tanks are always a great essential to wear under most tops and sweaters. The next layer should consist of something such as polypropylene or silk. Avoid cotton as it retains moisture and takes a while to dry if it were to get wet. If you’re still cold after this, add a light jacket that you can easily take off and carry or stash if you start to feel too warm.

  1. Boots-These must-haves come in so many shapes and sizes. Boots are a staple for any fall/winter wardrobe. They protect your feet from rain and keep your little toes nice and toasty. After all, our body temperature is regulated by and dependent upon our extremities, so it’s key to keep our feet warm during the cold season!

  1. Scarves-One of my favorite winter accessories has to be scarves! There are so many ways to wear them and they come in various fabrics, colors, and prints! They can add a great finishing touch to any outfit and also keep your neck warm!

  1. Gloves-Another great way to keep warm is by wearing gloves. Although, walking around wearing gloves in LA, which is sunny about 80% of the year, might seem kind of silly. My favorite alternative is fingerless gloves. These adorable cozies still keep your hands warm but add a bit of an edgy touch to an outfit.

Refer to these ideas as you prepare for winter and start rummaging for your cold weather essentials. And don’t forget, keep cozy and carry on! Happy winter!
