Meet Matt Dempsey, a 4th year Electrical Engineering/ Computer Science major…
HC: Are you involved in any extracurricular activities at UCLA?
MD: Yes I am, I am involved with NATCAR where we get to build and program a car in teams of 4. We compete with other UCLA teams as well as teams from other schools. I am also involved with Ecochella where I help design and build bike generators that power the concert.
HC: What has been your favorite part of being a member of NATCAR?
MD: My favorite part is just being able to share the experience of building something awesome with friends and because it is something we would not normally get to do.
HC: What animal best describes your personality?
MD: A bear, because it likes to eat honey and I like sweets!
HC: If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
MD: I would have to say either Japan, for the culture and technology, or somewhere in South America so I could experience a different way of life and practice my Spanish.
HC: What is your favorite thing to do in Westwood?
MD: Probably going to the movies!
HC: What is the best memory you have made at UCLA thus far?
MD: It would have to be simply getting to know everyone I have met; UCLA is full of such diverse and interesting people!
HC: What is one thing you would tell the freshman you?
MD: To take more risks in meeting new people!
HC: What are your future career goals?
MD: Anything where I can do programming and feel like I am making a difference.
HC: Any advice to people who wish to pursue careers in computer science?
MD: Get started early with working on your own projects so that you can learn news things while getting more hands on experience with programming.
