1. Astronomy Date Night
On May 20, you should keep an eye on the sky -- but not too close. That Sunday evening, the first solar eclipse seen in LA for years will be visible in the sky. So why not make a date of it? You can take your boy toy for a romantic viewing of the partial eclipse at Griffith Observatory. Of course, you have to be very careful when looking at the eclipse. Thankfully, Griffith has it covered. They have filtered telescopes and glasses, so you can save your vision for the eye candy you brought along.
When: Sunday May 20 at 5:24-7:42pm
Where: Griffith Observatory

2. Film Fix
James Franco. Do I have your attention? Good. You may have read on UCLA Radio's website that James Franco will be showcasing his new film, Sal, at the 16th annual Playhouse West Film Festival. That's enough information for me - I'm there! If you're not sold yet, Heather Morris of Glee and two of True Blood's finest actors will also make guest appearances. And you can get in for as cheap as $21. Of course it's not all about the guest appearances. It's mostly about the films! We live in LA, and this a great way to take advantage of the amazing film culture in our city.
When: Jun 8-10
Where: El Portal Theater

3. Grunion Run
This one's for you adventurous girls. Around this time of year, SoCal beaches see a little more action late at night. I'm talking about the little silver fish called Grunion, which come to shore to mate once the sun sets. You can take witness to the spectacle where you'll see the beach literally turn silver! Impress your friends or your boyfriend with your adventurous spirit as you hold it together around the slimy beach. I warned you, this isn't for just any girl, but it will certainly be memorable. Check out San Pedro's Cabrillo Marine aquarium, which holds informative talks and then walks to check out the swarm of fish.
When: Various dates, 9pm
Where: Cabrillo Marine Aquarium, San Pedro
