#UCFRemembers: Ways to Show Your Support Around Campus

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCF chapter.

Two years ago today, 49 lives were lost in a tragedy when a gunman opened fire in Pulse nightclub. Every day Orlando feels the pain of that night. Today, our community pays tribute to all of the innocent lives that were taken on June 12, 2016, and also shows support to everyone that was affected by this tragedy.  During this week, you can show your support by engaging in many of the activities and memorials that UCF has arranged to honor all of the lives lost as well as the survivors. Below is a list of the events hosted in the campus.

UCF Remembers – Library Exhibit (June 12 to 19, all day)

UCF Libraries organized an exhibit to honor the lives lost at Pulse where they are showcasing materials from the Pulse Collection in Special Collections & University Archives. The exhibit is on view on the 2nd (main) floor of the John C. Hitt Library in the glass display cases.

Blood Drive (June 12 to 14, 9 am to 7 pm)

Donating blood is very important and it’s also a personal way to honor the Pulse victims and their families. This compassionate action “is an important part of healing ourselves and our communities.”

Millican Hall lighting (June 12, 13, 14, 15, 7 pm to 11:30 pm)

Millican Hall will light up during the night for the rest of the week to show support to the families and friends that lost a loved one during this tragedy.

UCF Remembers Vigil (June 13, 7 pm to 8:30 pm)

This year, UCF will honor the 49 lives lost in the Pulse nightclub shooting with the UCF Remembers Vigil. At this event, several universities and community leaders will share personal testimonials, reflect, and support those affected by this tragedy. The vigil will take place in front of the Pulse mural outside of the Student Union.

It is important to remember that these are only a few ways to show your support to the ones affected by this event, and there are many more ways to pay tribute. There are other events happening all over Orlando that you can engage with. Join the community and show your support to the friends and families that lost a loved one, and especially to honor the 49 innocent lives that were taken.
