My First Experience With Barre Class

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCF chapter.

I have never been the kind of girl to participate in workout classes, I prefer to just do my own thing. And, I am not a huge fan of the Zumba/dance style class, as I hate cardio. However, at my gym, they started offering Barre, class. I had heard a lot of great things about, and when my mom told me I would love it, I thought I would give it a shot. As a lover of ballet, I knew it would be the perfect way for me to get a killer workout in and have fun at the same time.

What I absolutely loved about the Barre class was that you get a full body workout without the intense cardio. Although we were not running laps, I definitely felt like I had. Even though plies look graceful and feminine, let me tell you, doing enough of them can make you sweat just as much as a 5K on the treadmill does. With a mixture of plies, releves, lunges, some push-ups, sit-ups, and a few yoga poses, you are able to leave that class energized, refreshed, stretched and fully worked out.

Another aspect of the class that encouraged me to go to these classes all the time, was how chilled the atmosphere was. The environment was calm, supportive, and enjoyable.

With all of the ballet stretches and movements, I truly felt my younger self’s dream of becoming a ballerina was able to come true.

I have definitely fallen in love with the world of Barre, and will certainly implement it into my workout routine, and I think everyone should.
