So you just got the Airbnb confirmation and you absolutely can’t wait.  Spring break is right around the corner!  But… you realized the drive is going to be almost 30 hours total.  That’s a lot of time to be in a small space with the same people.  Well fear no more because here are some tips to survive your spring break road trip!

Snacks.  Bring so many snacks.  If you think you’ve brought too much, you still need more.  Instead of spending around $10 a person, and about an hour of your road time stopping for food, eat what you already have!  Bonus: it’s probably a ton healthier for you then the fast food off the side of the interstate.

Playlists.  Every time I know I am about to be driving for a very long time, I put together the perfect playlist. Fill it with some songs everyone knows the words to at the beginning, and then some calmer songs around the middle. Make it however you want, but make sure it is as long as the driving time. This sounds like a lot of work but it saves so much time from being in the car trying to pick what song next because “I feel like we’ve been listening to the same songs.”  Also, if you play it again on the way back, you might recognize certain songs telling you the playlist is almost over and you’re almost home.

Energy Drinks.  If you are splitting 15 hours a day between a couple of people, you might think you can do it, but just in case… bring a cooler.  In the cooler you need things like iced tea, water, and the most important of all: energy drinks.  Falling asleep at the wheel is so dangerous and when your passengers are asleep too then no one can wake you up. Drink up.

Blankets and Pillows.  For when you’re the passenger, bring some blankets and pillows. This might already be on your packing list, but you’re going to want to keep this in the back seat. It’s perfect for when you switch of drivers and need to take a nap. Plus it’s just comfortable and nice to have your own blankets at wherever you’re staying, so wrap up and get comfy!

Breaks.  Of course everyone stops for gas, restrooms and food, but it’s important to realize that you’re road tripping for a reason.  Pull over and look at the landscape for a minute.  Go check out that “worlds largest ball of yarn” or any other funny roadside attractions.  You’re only going to be able to come to these places with these people once. Enjoy the time!  This is your spring break with friend’s and you’re supposed to have the time of your life. Breath in and take in the memories.
