Her Campus Celeb: The Chris Hixon

He’s philanthropic, in a frat, and for the kids! Meet The Chris Hixon, UCF’s very own Her Campus Celeb.

Year?

Senior x2

Major?

Political Science

Hometown?

Ft. Lauderdale, Florida

What all are you involved in?

I’m currently on SGA’s Executive Cabinet as the Public Relations Coordinator, I’m the Event Operations Manager for Knight-Thon, UCF’s Dance Marathon, and I’m the Chaplain for Theta Chi Fraternity.

When did you start getting involved?

I started my fall semester of freshman year on Senate Leadership Council and later got on Senate my spring semester of freshman year. Sophomore year I became chair of SLC. For Knight-thon I was a dancer my sophomore year, became an Assistant Captain my junior year, and have been on exec for my two senior years.

What made you want to get involved?

I was always really involved in high school. The reason I came to UCF was because there are so many opportunities. I wanted to give back to the UCF community. It’s also a great way to meet people and network.

Tell us a little about Knight-Thon.

Knight-Thon is UCF’s Dance Marathon, the largest student-run philanthropy benefiting Greater Orlando Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. I had Leukemia as a kid when I was six years old, so I always try to do something to help kids with illness or people with life threatening illnesses. I got involved because it was a way to give back and also get my fraternity to get involved and give back to a cause that helps so many people. It’s a great way to challenge students to do something different other than just give money, you actually get to see the difference you’re making.

Describe yourself in three emojis.

The smiley face with the sunshades, the firecracker bang, and the smirking smiley.

What is your favorite Spotify playlist?

KT-Withdrawals, someone on exec made it last year when it all ended.

What is your Netflix guilty pleasure?

Gilmore Girls, 100%.

What are your future plans and aspirations?

Ideally, I want to be a speechwriter. Recently though I’ve wanted to be a lobbyist. But, eventually become a speechwriter for a non-profit organization like Children’s Miracle Network, or for a politician.

Any advice for underclassmen who want to get involved?

Definitely find something you’re passionate about because there is definitely an organization out there. Don’t do it just because it adds weight to your resume, do it because it truly makes a difference.
