Four Fool-Proof Holiday Makeup Looks

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCF chapter.

With the holiday season quickly approaching, it is time to break out the festive makeup looks. They can seem intimidating, but I am here to assure you with five glam makeup looks guaranteed to make you look festive, but still be really easy.

#1- Hot Cocoa Shimmer Smokey-Eye

I called this look hot cocoa shimmer because it uses brown shades with a pop of glitter/shimmer. Don’t be intimidated by the word “smokey-eye” because with the right brushes and colors it can be really easy. The key to a smokey eye is to blend, blend, blend, and then blend some more. First things first, you want to start with a light brown transition shade. A trick I have is to use your bronzer as a transition shade, not only does it warm up your face, but it brings your overall look together. So, with a fluffy brush blend the color through your crease. Then, get a slightly darker brown shade and blend that into the outer part of your crease in order to create dimension. Once you get the desired shade level, with your finger or a wet brush, spread a shimmer color of your choice (gold, rose gold, copper, etc.) all over the lid. And once you reach the desired level of shimmer, you can take the blending brush you used earlier, and blend it out for a seamless finish. This tutorial by Carli Bybel is a great video for this look. And remember, you do not have to use the same exact colors, you can always change it up so it fits your face shape and style.

#2- Glamorous Mrs. Claus

This look is inspired by the one and only Mrs. Claus. I imagine her wearing this frosty eyeshadow, black eyeliner, red lip whilst helping out her husband prepare for his travels. So, the key to this look is to keep it simple because of the red lip statement. Start off with that same brown or even a blush pink transition color in your crease and then darken it as much as you would like with a dark brown or black. Then, take a frosty white shimmer/glitter and place it all over your lid just like in look one. Now, you can either stop here or you came amp up the glamour by topping it off with a cat eyeliner. YouTube is filled with tutorials on how to do a cat eye, but if you can’t don’t worry about it because this look is just as gorgeous with or without the eyeliner. A good video to watch to help with this look is this one by Christen Dominique.

#3- Rose Gold Pinterest Queen

Throughout these past few years, rose gold has taken over the beauty industry. Whether it is through their packaging or the actual pigment, it is everywhere, and the beauty of it is that it goes with all skin tones. With the right shades, this look can be effortless. Rather than using a brown transition shade, you want to complement the rose gold so you can use a blush matte pink or rose shade and spread that through your crease. Then with a wet brush or your finger, spread the shimmer rose gold shade all over your lid. And if you want the look to be a little more dramatic you can add a brown eyeliner in your waterline and tight line. Check out this tutorial by Jackie Aina for a video tutorial.

#4- Cindy Lou-Who’s Natural and Flawless Look

Cindy Lou-Who is the lovable main character in the Grinch movie, and always had a very natural makeup look while walking around Whoville, so she is the perfect inspiration for this look. While some people like to get glam and slay their friends and family with their cut crease, some like to be laid back and not have to worry about what they look like. This look is probably the most flexible because you can do more or less of whatever you want. So, the key to this look is to have a flawless base, and it will all come together. So, once you put on a good, reliable foundation and concealer everything else will fall into place. Then, putting on a nice pink colored blush and really black mascara will make you look awesome in photographs. And if you stayed up too late looking for Santa Claus, then you can pop a nice shimmer highlight shade in the inner corner of your eye and on the tops of your cheeks and you’re solid. Tanya Burr’s Christmas party look in this video is an awesome video to check out.
