Do’s and Don’ts of Being Single on Valentine’s Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCF chapter.

Valentines day, or “single awareness day” is coming up! Here’s how to avoid making this day “S.A.D”

Do: Treat yourself! Buy a little something that you’ve had your eye on for a while, something super cool that no guy knew to get their girlfriends.

Do: Eat chocolate. All by yourself. Nobody will ever know or judge you, plus no sharing!

Do: Hangout with your most fun single girl friends and make a bucket list for the night.

Do: If you get sad, stalk the most annoying internet couple you know and be thankful you aren’t them.

Do: Look at valentines day as a day to show love to your friends and family, too! Call someone you haven’t talked to in a while to remind them that you care

Don’t: Desperately search for a valentine or boyfriend to fill the void. You were single before today doing just fine before everyone decided to wear pink and red and go on dates at the same time.

Don’t: Complain over social media about how you are forever alone. This is not attractive to Prince Charming who’s totally just around the corner.

Don’t: Eat your feelings. Yes, some indulgence is okay but don’t eat your weight in lack of boyfriend, you’ll regret it later.

Don’t: Use valentines day as a “I hate my ex so I’m going to burn all of his stuff” day. As tempting as this may sound, it will make valentines day all about him and not about you (who wants that anyways?)

Don’t: Contact your ex and say anything about how you’re “totally over him” and “so glad you’re single” this is a not so subtle way of showing you are definitely not over him. Plus, what he doesn’t know makes him wonder.

Do: Have fun! Don’t let the couples make you think this day is all about them, w.w.b.d? What would Beyoncé do if she was single? Oh yeah, sing a chart topping song about it! *cue single ladies*

Hobbies include stealing way too many free mints from restaurants, incorporating song lyrics into everyday conversation and becoming way too attached to TV series on Netflix. She hopes to one day become ridiculously famous for doing nothing like the Kardashians if the whole "get-married-to-Zac-Efron" thing doesn't pan out.
