Best Romantic Comedies Even Your Boyfriend Will Like

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCF chapter.

If your boyfriend is anything like mine, he cringes at the thought of having to sit through a sappy, chick-flick movie that revolves around a predictable love story and a cheesy ending. Sure, he’s a romantic when it comes to our relationship, but he’s all action and comedy when it comes to movies. Why force yourselves to sit through a movie that clearly was chosen for just one person’s interests? Why not find a movie genre that will finally have you and your boyfriend on the same page? I’m sure you’ll be happy to know that there is, in fact, a solution to this horrific, first-world problem. That solution, my friend, is the genre of romantic comedy. Whether its date night with your beau or you’re just in the movie mood, be sure to have these romantic comedies within close reach – you won’t be disappointed.

50 First Dates

With a duo like Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler, you can never go wrong! Watching the cookie cutter commitment-phobe finally find the girl of his dreams makes for a great storyline. But, it’s when he finds out she has short-term memory loss is when things get interesting.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall

What happens when one takes a tropical vacation in order to try and get over his ex? He obviously runs into that ex, who is vacationing with her new superstar boyfriend. Can you say awkward (and hilarious?)

Friends with Benefits

Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake, can it really get any better? Friends with Benefits perfectly shows how relationships typically start in our young generation. Sometimes it’s best to be carefree and just have fun; but if there’s chemistry, the friendship is bound to turn into something more. The real lesson here — if you ever have the chance to be more than just friends with Justin Timberlake, you take that chance!

13 Going on 30

Ever wish you could go forward in time and see exactly how things are going to turn out? Ever wonder if at some point you get the guy you not only want, but need? Well in 13 Going on 30, Jennifer Garner’s character does just that! With such a young-at-heart feel, this movie will have you both laughing and daydreaming about the past and the future.

The Proposal

The typical “not knowing you like the guy until you lose him” scenario. Sandra Bullock, who plays the pushy boss, finds herself in quite the pickle when she needs to keep her Visa status in the US. What better way than to force a totally handsome and equally humorous employee to marry you?

What Happens in Vegas

We all know that what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. But, what actually happens in Vegas that is so horrendous it needs to be kept a secret? You marry a guy you just met. Oops?

Easy A

In Easy A, Emma Stone shows us that going along with a promiscuous rumor can peg you as someone you’re not. In Easy A, Emma Stone also shows us that when you are yourself, the hot guy comes and loves you for who you really are. Wait, that’s not how it happens in real life…

John Tucker Must Die

The bad boy player will always be irresistible, especially when it’s John Tucker. Captain of the basketball team and a degree in smooth talking, he can get any girl he wants. Except Kate that is. This movie just goes to show that crazy exes and girl power can be a powerful combination.

When in Rome

If you believe in the power of wishing wells, then When in Rome will have you rummaging around for spare change. I mean, love only works when you wish for it, right? Well, sometimes messing around with the Fountain of Love can get you a little too much affection.

She’s the Man

Can you say love triangle? When Amanda Bynes goes undercover as her brother in order to play her favorite sport, soccer, things go somewhat awry in the love department. It’s a hard life when you’re lusting over Channing Tatum but he has his eyes on another girl.

17 Again

Um, hello… Zac Efron. Need I say more? Plus, there’s a bunch of basketball scenes and some pretty awesome parties throughout the movie. This is definitely a win-win for both you and the boyfriend if you ask me.

Failure to Launch

Matthew McConaughey, the typical lady killer. He’ll buy you a drink, tell you everything you want to hear, and get you to go home with him for the night. Where’s home exactly? Oh, that would be his parent’s house. Watch Sarah Jessica Parker as she falls for the grown momma’s boy in Failure to Launch
