6 Reasons To Wake Up Earlier

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCF chapter.

It’s not far-fetched to say that the majority of college students are late risers. Most college students go to bed around 2 or 3 a.m. and do not wake up until around lunchtime. While sleeping in might be your thing, you may want to consider some of the benefits of waking up earlier before hitting the snooze button tomorrow morning.

Time for the gym

The most common excuse for skipping out on a workout is, “I don’t have time.” Well, make some time! Wake up an hour or so earlier than you normally would and squeeze in a workout before you start your day. You’ll feel energized for the rest of the day and you won’t have your workout hanging over your head.

Get some homework done

Doing some homework in the morning before a hectic day will help you concentrate without any distractions. You won’t feel as rushed as you normally would while you’re scrambling around to submit something before midnight. Waking up early to knock out a few assignments will also leave your afternoons and evenings open for the fun stuff.

Eat breakfast

When crunched for time in the morning, eating breakfast sometimes gets pushed to the backburner. Waking up earlier gives you more time to prepare a well-balanced meal to start you day. Check out some easy breakfast ideas

Eliminate the “rush feeling”

Getting up a little earlier than normal eliminates that “rush feeling” you most likely have when leaving the house each morning.  Allowing yourself more time in the morning, you’ll feel calmer and more put together. You’re also more likely to remember everything you need for the day.

Enjoy your coffee in the peace and quiet

Not only will you not feel rushed, but waking up earlier will also give you a brief moment of peace and quiet to start the day. You will have time to actually sit down and enjoy your cup of coffee while browsing the Internet or catching up on some reading.

Get into a routine

Once you start making yourself wake up early, your body will start to get into a routine. You won’t dread your morning alarm, and chances are you will start to wake up at a reasonable time without even needing to set an alarm.

If you’re one of the many who like to sleep in late, starting to wake up can be a bit of a challenge. There are many things you can do to make waking up early part of your daily routine. Make sure to check back next week for some tips on how to make waking up earlier a little easier!
