5 Possible Scenarios When Finding a UCF Parking Spot

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCF chapter.

When you attend the second largest university in terms of student enrollment, going to class is never fun if you’re commuting. In a school where there’s about 60,000 students, there’s only about 11,000 parking spots. You can probably now imagine the chaos that a majority of students who live off campus face when they have to come to class during the day. Everyone goes through a different scenario every day, but here are just the top 5 most relatable ones…

1. A spot just opened as soon as you drove in on the very first floor, and you’re first at it.

I thought I’d start this article off with the nice, perfect scenario, that every spot-hungry student hopes to go through when they enter a parking garage. The feeling you get is literally a rush of pure happiness and excitement –and I know that sounds lame, but if you don’t attend UCF then you just won’t understand.

2. A spot has opened… but then you see someone else is already waiting.

Then you casually make your round on whatever floor you’re on for a second time, or you possibly keep making your way up, dreading that you missed something that almost was by a mere minute or two…That person better have been searching for a spot longer than you’ve been.

3. After strolling your way through the floors for a few minutes, you finally settle for the roof.

The roof isn’t fun. It’s just about the only place that ever manages to have any sort of spot open (if you’re lucky still). Guess you just have to take what you can get and look at the positive side of things. You’re going to get some real good exercise later when you have to make your way up the stairs in the scorching Florida sun.

4. You climb your way up to the roof for there to still somehow be NO spots, and you have to go to another garage.

The struggle is real if this happens. I cringe just typing about this horrible possibility. Unfortunately, this is what happens to most students on a daily basis.

5. You end up traveling from garage to garage to garage and end up taking about half an hour to finally find a spot, maybe even longer.

And by now, you’re definitely not in the mood to deal with anything, especially class. Try again in about an hour- this professor better not try your patience today.

After finally parking for the day, you now are going through one of two possible situations: you’re early enough to class to get there on time, or you’re rushing like crazy so that you can at least get to class before your professor starts their lecture. Man, the things we students have to go through here for a quality education. Next time I’ll just have Knightro pick me up, he’s got one sweet ride, too.
