Secret Santa Gifts on a Budget

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCD chapter.

The holidays are finally upon us! For some of us, this time of year means donning our favorite warm sweaters, getting cozy by the fire with our family or partaking in a tradition common around this time of year: gift giving.

One of the most common ways to exchange gifts among both young and older groups is through Secret Santa. Whether you’re been chosen as the Secret Santa for your best friend, someone from your club that you hardly know, or a family member, shopping on a budget and perfecting the secret gift can be difficult. Here’s a guide to help you find the perfect Secret Santa gift for any situation on a budget!

Utility gifts

If you don’t really know the person that you’re shopping for or it’s someone that you know won’t really want anything quirky or personal, then getting them a utility gift is the way to go! Notebooks, stationary, a set of mugs are always safe bets. If they’re a UCD student, grabbing something from the bookstore never fails either. A mug like this is $5.

Electronics

Electronics are always appreciated as a Secret Santa gift. You can find inexpensive headphones, keyboard covers or phone accessories at Target. These headphones are $19.

The Girly-Girl

If you have the girly-girl as your gift receiver, many high end make up brands sell mini gift sets for cheap. A pack of lip gloss, a mascara, a nail polish kit or a gift set of lotion from Bath and Body Works are gifts that no girl would ever say she has enough of. A lip gloss set like this is $15.

Winter-Related

You really can’t go wrong with anything winter-related. Scarves, beanies, fuzzy and warm socks can be found for reasonable prices at stores like Target or Walmart. These socks are $5.

Food Gifts

If you know you have someone who loves to eat and doesn’t care much for a material good, get them something unique like a care package of snacks, candy or gift cards to a popular restaurant. You could even order and deliver a few pizzas to their door and have the deliverer say it’s from their Secret Santa!

Happy shopping!
