Make the Most Of Your College Experience: A Senior’s Perspective

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCD chapter.

“Make the most of it.”

Those are the words of advice everyone gives when you leave high school and go to college. People tell you the cliché, “Time will fly by, and it will go in the blink of an eye.” We listen and do not realize just how much those words actually mean. They tell you to make the most of the four years because honestly as a senior I have no idea where my four years went.

I tried to do everything and make the most of my college experience. I took hundreds of pictures, studied abroad, joined clubs, and made life long friends. However, it still feels as if it was only a few weeks ago. While I was making the most of it, time was flying by. I was having a great time studying, working, and making memories, but now I’m at a bittersweet standstill.

Davis is truly a town that will give and give. From the neighborhood events to the Farmers Market, the options of community living are endless. One can slowly feel so immersed in being a local that the thought of leaving makes you tear up. The campus is so beautiful, and walking through it has become second nature. I realize walking in the Arboretum after graduating will not be as easy as just biking over.

Something I wish I had known four years ago would have been to really understand how fast the four years would go by. In the long term of a lifespan, it’s a mere four years, but you grow up in that time. You become independent and figure out what you want for the rest of your life at an average of being 18-22 years old. It feels like you have so long, but in reality, when you graduate, you have your undergraduate degree for your future. You have learned and mastered your major, made your connections and it’s time to go off into the real world.

I'm 21 years old from Manteca California and majoring in international relations at University of California Davis. I'm aspiring to become a lawyer! I love Bhangra, family, friends and event planning and during dinner one night I decided with my best friends why not have a bhangra competition at UC Davis. Fun fact about me, I love to travel, and my immediate family is in 14 different countries.
