Decorating for the Holidays on a College Budget

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCD chapter.

The holiday season really is the best time of the year. The smell of pine cones about town, festive lights lighting up every house for blocks, and peppermint-everything puts us in an especially jovial mood.

While we would love to devote a week to making our lives mirror Pinterest, college students don’t have the required time or money to spend on these ventures. We want the easiest and most inventive projects, but we don’t want to scour Pinterest for an hour to find them. So, here are 5 easy-peasy, original and practical projects to try this weekend.

1. Pine Cone Wreath ($22, plus the cost of a glue gun) Nothing says holiday season like a wreath on your door.

2. Peppermint Lip Balm – Since this project incorporates many ingredients you may already have in your pantry, the craft can cost anywhere between $6-32. Make it in bulk to hand out as stocking stuffers for your friends!

3. Metallic Painted Mason Jars ($19) Make a set of painted mason jars to house candles in to keep you warm all winter.

4. Mint Sugar Scrub (~ $14, plus the cost of jars) Sugar scrubs are becoming a trendy item, so you should definitely try out this festive mint recipe!

5. Easy Peppermint Fudge ($9) Slice these up, and hand them off to spread holiday cheer… Or treat yourself to the whole batch. It’s up to you!
