4 Makeup Removers That Give You More for Your Buck

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCD chapter.

Makeup removers: They’re important, right?

Everyday, we spend a good chunk of our time carefully applying primers, foundations, concealers, eyeshadows, liners, and mascaras to give ourselves the freshest look possible. We wear our faces all day, exposing them to the outside elements. When we come home, many of us put in the time to take off our carefully made-up faces. We wipe and rub our skin, rinse it with water and some cleanser, and call it a day.

While the tugging, rubbing, and cleansing may seem effective enough, these techniques are actually damaging our skin. Plus, it seems that out of all of the beauty products out there, the value of good makeup removers are really overlooked.

As a beauty and skincare fanatic, I am a huge fan of multi-purpose skin products, i.e. products that get the job done right and then some. Here are 4 makeup removers that are guaranteed to give you more for your buck:

1.     Vaseline ($3.67 for 7.5 oz)

This is my first (and personal favorite) pick. For under $4, this product gently removes eye makeup and moisturizes your skin at the same time. It’s also great for cleaning up both major and minor eye makeup mistakes. Example: While attempting to do a cat eye last month, I messed up big time. A couple of swipes of Vaseline later, my eyes were completely clear (no raccoon-like liner residue), and I was ready to start over again.

2.     Pond’s Cold Cream ($7.97 for 9.5 oz)

As one of the oldest skin and beauty care lines in the industry, Pond’s has nailed the formula for the best gentle makeup remover with their Cold Cream Cleanser. What’s the secret? Their cleansing formula is actually 50% moisturizer. The product, which contains mineral oil and beeswax for maximum moisture retention, is great for sensitive skin.

3.     Coconut oil ($7.47 for 14 oz)

If you’re looking for a product that is multipurpose and chemical-free, this is it. Coconut oil is a great option for makeup removal. Since the oil is solid at room temperature, scoop some out and rub it between your fingers to soften it. Swipe it over your skin and gently wipe the skin with a cotton ball or pad. It gets the job done quickly, leaves your skin ultra moisturized, and smells amazing too!

4.   Jojoba oil ($7.49 for 4 oz)

Both a makeup remover and skin cleanser, jojoba oil is another natural, multipurpose skincare option. Where does it come from? The oil is a botanical extract from the seed of a jojoba tree. The formula removes makeup and dirt while restoring moisture to the skin. Many say that the oil tricks the skin into thinking it is producing enough oil, and therefore balances our bodies’ oil production.
