5 (Annoying) Things Short People Have to Deal With

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UC Riverside chapter.

As someone who stopped growing in the 6th grade, I’ve always wished that I was just a little bit taller. Eventually, as I got older, it seemed as if life was easier for taller people. Of course, not to say that being short is bad, but I’m sure we can agree that there are just some irritating things us shorties have to deal with on a day-to-day basis! Here is a list of some of my favorite first-world-short-people problems:

1.) Sun visors in the car just don’t work.

  • It is a super sunny day, you’re being blinded by the sun as you drive, and sunglasses just aren’t cutting it. You put down the sun visor in hopes that it’ll block the sun, but the shady part ends up missing your eyes by an inch…or three.

2.) People think you are far younger than you actually are.

  • For some reason, it’s more difficult to be taken seriously if you’re a shorter height because people automatically assume you’re younger and less experienced in life. This could get annoying especially in a professional setting.

3.) Getting elbowed in the face at concerts and music festivals.

  • Aside from being unable to see the stage, you have to deal with people accidentally hitting you in the nose or jaw.

4.) Dresses are almost always a weird length.

  • For girls, finding the perfect length dress feels impossible. A mini dress becomes an awkward knee length dress, and maxi dresses just drags on the floor.

5.) It’s hard to reach the floor when biking.

  • Getting onto and off the bike is a challenge. Your balancing skills have to be 10x better to avoid completely tipping over and hurting yourself.

In conclusion…you’ve had this thought at least once in your life:
