What’s in Her Bag: Beach Vacation Make-up Essentials

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UC Irvine chapter.

Even though spring break has come and gone, it is still possible to escape for a weekend getaway to the beach with some friends. If you are one of the less fortunate people who have to spend every weekend cooped up reading your textbooks, look on the positive side, summer is only a few months away! Here are a few essentials that I would pack on a vacation to a warm tropical climate.

Face:

The Balm: Balm Shelter Tinted Moisturizer

Opt for a tinted moisturizer like this one from The Balm. It has SPF in it to protect your skin from the sun and feels lighter on the face than a foundation with still giving a fair amount of coverage.

Maybellline: Instant Age Rewind Dark Circle Eraser

When I’m on a plane or in a hotel I do not sleep very well so dreaded dark circles appear under my eyes. Use a salmon colored concealer to balance out the purple undertone of the dark circles to appear more awake with a brighter complexion.

Tarte: Amazonian Clay Concealer

I love this concealer because of its thick consistency. This formula will cover up any imperfections that show through the tinted moisturizer.

Rimmel: Stay Matte Powder

I have oily skin, so if I do not set my makeup with a powder, especially in a humid climate, my make-up would slip right off my face!

Too Faced: Chocolate Soleil Bronzer

This bronzer is great to contour with or if I use it with my MAC duo fiber brush. It really warms up my complexion by giving me that sun-kissed look without the sun damage a real tan does to my skin.

Nars: Mini Blush in Orgasm

I recently got this mini sample size of Nars’ most well-known blush. I love that its small size makes it easy to travel with and the color adds a nice glow to the cheeks.

Clean & Clear: Oil Absorbing Sheets

These are great for me to carry around so I can appear to have a more matte face without having to carrying around my powder and brush.

Eyes & Lips:

Urban Decay Naked 1 Palette:

This palette has all the eye colors I would need for an entire week. I have a warm undertone to my skin, so I prefer the Naked 1 to the Naked 2 all though I own both.

L’Oreal Lineur Intese

This is one of my favorite liquid eyeliners. It is easy to use and stays on for a long time. Liquid liners are great to travel with because you do not need any extra tools to apply it.

Maybelline: The Falsies Mascara

When it comes to mascara, I prefer lengthening mascaras just because I naturally have very short eyelashes and do not like fussing with fake eyelashes, especially while on vacation. This mascara is perfect because it is waterproof and gives me the length I want.

Anastasia Brow Wiz

I naturally have very sparse eyebrows, so in order for me to look polished, I have to fill them in. This brow pencil is perfect because the small point allows me to achieve a more natural brow look. This pencil also has an eyebrow brush on the other end of it to blend out the brows, which means one less brush to pack!

Tweezerman: Duo Travel Tweezers

Even through my brows are sparse they do get unruly and grow quickly, so tweezers are necessary for me to keep my brows looking neat. I love this duo travel-sized pack of Tweezermans I found at Target.

Burt’s Bees: Ultra Conditioning Lip Balm w/ Kokum Butter

I love this lip balm because it comes in a tube so you do not have to place your finger in it like some lip balms, which makes it easy to travel with. The formula is also very hydrating which is perfect for a warm condition.

Revlon: Colorburst Balm Stain in Rendezvous

This lip color is very hydrating and stays on for a long time since it’s a stain. I love this coral color which I think would be perfect for a tropical getaway.

I hope this helps you decide what you want to bring on you want to bring on your next beach vacation.
