A Collegiette’s Kitchen: Smoothies for Those Hot, Steamy Summer Days

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UC Irvine chapter.

Man, it’s getting hot out there! So what’s the secret to a tasty treat that’s healthy and incredibly cool? A smoothie! No pool party is ever complete without this popular blended beverage.

Fruity Froyo Frenzy   (5 to 10 minutes)

  • 1 banana, peeled and sliced
  • 2 cups frozen strawberries, or raspberries (10 to 12 berries)
  • 1 cup cranberry juice
  • 1 cup lowfat frozen yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon of honey
  • ½ to 1 cup ice or more for a slushy style

Put all the ingredients in a blender and process until smooth and desired thickness. Pour into frosted glasses and serve. Top off your glass with a frozen berry of your choice.

Cook’s note: For non-dairy smoothies, substitute the regular yogurt with soy yogurt.
Helpful Tip: Honey is a healthy way to naturally sweeten up your smoothies! You may have to add more or less depending on how big of a sweet tooth you have!
