On February 25th, Sheng Kee Bakery opened on Telegraph Avenue, next to The Toaster Oven and right across from Walgreens.
Sheng Kee, a Taiwanese bakery, was originally started in Taipei , Taiwan by Mrs. Kao. In order to support her family, Mrs. Kao began “Sheng Kee”, which means “for a living” in Chinese. Her cakes, pastries and bread were so delicious that they caught the attention of many. Soon, her small bakery grew to something much bigger and can now be seen throughout California.
Berkeley’s own Sheng Kee offers much more than the original Taiwanese pastries; it serves a variety of breads from different cultures such as the Vietnamese “Bahn Mi” as well as the American “Crispy Chicken Sandwich.” Sheng Kee not only sells bread for breakfast but also sandwiches for lunch or dinner. Not to mention they also sell cakes, perfect for a mid-day snack.
Aside from selling cakes, pastries and bread, Sheng Kee also sells boba, a favorite drink among students. What makes Sheng Kee’s boba special is that they sell it in big, fat cups, like the ones sold at a popular boba store in Southern California called Half & Half.
A favorite among students, Sheng Kee is your one-stop shop for some delicious bread and boba! Check Sheng Kee out today!
